What This Policy Covers

Look, we get it - privacy policies can be a slog. We've tried to keep this one readable because we actually want you to know what's going on with your personal information. This policy applies to anyone who visits our site, reaches out to us, or works with us on a project.

Bottom line: we only collect what we need, we don't sell your info, and we keep everything secure. If that changes, we'll let you know.

Information We Collect

Stuff You Give Us Directly

When you fill out our contact form, send us an email, or call the studio, you're sharing basic info like your name, email address, phone number, and details about your project. We need this to actually respond to you and understand what you're looking for.

Project-Related Information

Once we're working together, we'll collect more specific details - property info, your design preferences, budget considerations, site photos, that kind of thing. It's all part of making your project happen.

Technical Stuff

Like most websites, ours collects some automatic data - your IP address, browser type, which pages you visit. We use this to keep the site running smoothly and see what content people find useful. Nothing creepy, just standard website analytics.

How We Use Your Information

  • → Responding to your inquiries
Pretty obvious - you reach out, we get back to you. Can't do that without your contact details.
  • → Project development & design work
We use the info you share to actually design your space, prepare drawings, get permits, coordinate with contractors - the whole nine yards.
  • → Communication about your project
Updates, questions, changes - we'll use your contact info to keep you in the loop throughout the design and build process.
  • → Improving our services
We look at how people use our site and what questions come up to make our services better.
  • → Legal stuff
Sometimes we're required by law to keep certain records. We're an architecture firm, so there're professional standards and regulations we gotta follow.

Who Sees Your Data

We don't sell or rent your information. Period. But we do share it with:

  • Contractors and consultants working on your project
  • Government offices for permits and approvals
  • Our lawyers or accountants if needed
  • Service providers who help run our business (hosting, email, etc.)

Keeping It Safe

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data - encrypted connections, secure servers, limited access within our team. No system is 100% foolproof, but we take reasonable precautions and stay on top of best practices. Our files are backed up regularly and stored securely.

Your Rights & Choices

You've got control over your information. Here's what you can do:

Access your data

Ask us what info we have about you.

Request corrections

Something's wrong? We'll fix it.

Delete your info

Subject to legal requirements, we can remove your data.

Opt out of marketing

Don't wanna hear from us? No hard feelings.

Just shoot us an email at info@glimmerthorn.info to exercise any of these rights.

Cookies & Tracking

Our website uses cookies - small text files that help the site remember you and work properly. We use 'em for things like keeping you logged in, remembering your preferences, and understanding how people use our site.

Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings. Just know that blocking all cookies might make parts of the site not work as well.

How Long We Keep Your Data

It depends on what kind of info it is. Basic inquiry details, we'll keep for a year or so. Active project files stay around as long as we're working together, plus several years after for warranty and legal reasons - that's standard practice in architecture.

Financial records, we keep for seven years (that's a tax thing). Once the retention period's up, we securely delete or anonymize the data.

Portfolio & Project Photos

We love showcasing our work, but we always ask for permission before using project photos in our portfolio or marketing materials. If you've worked with us and don't want your project featured, just let us know. If you've already given permission and change your mind, we'll remove the images.

Any photos we share publicly won't include identifying information about you unless you've specifically agreed to it.

Third-Party Links

Our site might link to other websites - supplier catalogs, building product info, sustainability resources. Once you click through to another site, this privacy policy doesn't apply anymore. We can't control what those sites do with your data, so check out their policies if you're concerned.

Changes to This Policy

We might update this policy from time to time - usually 'cause of new laws or changes in how we operate. When we do, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version here. For major changes, we'll probably send out an email to let active clients know.

Canadian Privacy Laws

We're based in Toronto, so we follow Canadian privacy laws, including PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act). That means we're committed to protecting your privacy with some of the strongest standards out there.

If you've got concerns about how we're handling your data, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Questions or Concerns?

Seriously, if anything in here's unclear or you've got questions about your privacy, reach out. We'd rather have a conversation than have you wondering what's going on with your info.
